Percentage Decrease Calculator
Calculate the percentage decrease between an old and a new value.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate a percentage decrease?+
Subtract the new value from the original value, divide by the original value, then multiply by 100. For example, from 200 to 150 the decrease is (200 − 150) ÷ 200 × 100 = 25%.
What does a negative percentage mean here?+
If the new value is larger than the original, the decrease comes out negative — which means the value actually increased by that percentage.
Why is the result 0% when the original value is zero?+
Percentage decrease divides by the original value, so a starting value of zero has no defined percentage. The calculator returns 0% to avoid an invalid (divide-by-zero) result.
